Jerell Briggs

I am a third-year English/World Arts and Cultures double major. I am a member of HOOLIGAN Theatre Company, UCLA’s largest fully student run and performed amateur theatre company, and I recently vocal directed my first musical (which was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19). I would like to thank Professor Gallagher for providing this opportunity to allow me to flesh out and showcase my project, and I would like to let you know that this is still an ongoing work, and this may not be the last you see of it in the near future.

Sylvia Camacho

As a Mexican-American first generation college student and third-year English major, I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to explore the impact of forced separation on societies all over the world in combination with my interest of children’s literature. Currently, I am an associate for HOOLIGAN Theatre Company’s Education Department in which I host social events, as well as organize and teach free theater workshops to students at UCLA and throughout LAUSD. In my free time, I enjoy performing in musicals with recent stage credits including The Little Mermaid (Ariel) and Fame (Carmen Diaz).

Noah Hundley

I am a fourth-year double major in English and Psychology. In the next year I will be applying to English PhD programs with a focus on early medieval literature. With the Orpheus and Eurydice Project, I’ve been deeply grateful for the opportunity to investigate the intersection of myth, and thus antiquity, and contemporary mediums, specifically video games.

Talia Isayan

I am a fourth-year English major and Classical Studies minor. My interests include 18th- and 19th-century British literature, especially the late Romantics. Earlier this year, I completed an honors thesis in the English department on Lord Byron’s Don Juan and I hope to continue my academic journey in a graduate program sometime in the near future. In my free time, I enjoy studying and practicing foreign languages and, occasionally, writing short science fiction stories.

Michelle Kim

I am a second-year English major. At UCLA, I am also on the board of ACM-W, a division of the computer science and technology club ACM, dedicated to promoting diversity in tech. My project was motivated by my recent interest in K-pop and long-term interest in digital formatting to display information–though perhaps more by the former.

Talin Mikhaelpour

I am senior majoring in English, with a minor in Anthropology. My preferred area of study is Renaissance literature, and looking at the intersection between religion and literature. Anthropologically, I love looking at human evolution, paleopathology, and primate behaviors. Aside from academics, I enjoy drawing, painting, sculpting, and watching the Great British Bake Off and attempting to bake my own bread. My experience working at the Getty Research Institute has also introduced me to my new hobby of repairing damaged books.

Miranda Montenegro

I graduated from UCLA in March 2020 with a B.A. in English and a concentration in Film, Television and Digital Media. During my time at UCLA, my academic pursuits were largely centered on the intersection of film and music, and theoretical and philosophical scholarship. Additionally, I interned for the development divisions at Sony Pictures Entertainment, Montecito Picture Company and Entravision Communications Corporation. I currently serve as the resident live music photographer for America’s first live-streaming web talk show, Evertalk Live!

Jiwon Park

I am second-year student pursuing a double major in English and Statistics. I was born in South Korea but spent my childhood in the States (and proceeded to move back and forth again), to which I attribute my fondness for English literature. I am part of the College Honors program and am currently serving as the 2020-21 vice president of Bruin KSEA, the Korean American Scientists and Engineers Association at UCLA. My research interests are inclined toward the humanities.

Monika Petrosyan

I am a senior majoring in English, and I transferred to UCLA in the fall of 2018. Since my enrollment, I have been a part of clubs such as UNICEF and Westwind Journal of the Arts. I was one of the first student leaders with The Immigrant Youth Task Force at UCLA, which has given me the opportunity to be a part of an incredible movement that has taken me to a conference, and allowed me to be part of the creation of a toolkit meant to help medical providers, and immigrant families.

I have always had a love for literature and am so glad that I have been able to study this passion more thoroughly at UCLA. As I approach graduation in June, I hope to dive into the world of journalism where I can hone the writing, speaking, and listening abilities that I have learned throughout my academic career.
